Rock, Pop, Classical, Folk and World
Swedish Christian band from Norrland. Malva was formed in the spring of 1998 by Maria Abrahamsson and Peter Gidlund. Since its inception, the band has participated in a number of major festivals and events both in Sweden and abroad. Skule Fish Festival, Gatufesten in Sundsvall, Kumlinge Visfest on Åland and Botniabanan opening are some examples. A record contract in January 2002 led to the release of the group's first "real" CD "På vinst och förlust". Malva writes its own lyrics, and usually also its own music. Sometimes other composers lend their music to Malvas Swedish texts. Some examples include Joni Mitchell, Peter Gabriel, Marc Cohn (who wrote "Walking in Memphis", Phil Coulter (writing for example Sinead O'Connor), Eddi Reader, Sting, etc. The absence of an ordinary drumming, combined with a very special song selection and Mary's expressive voice, are some of the reasons for Malva's success at various scenes around the country. In some situations, the group can be perceived as low-key, almost "dreamy" to create a heavy turn with congas, african diembe drum and beautiful rocky bass rhythms!
