Arranger / Producer of World
A.k.a. Manuel dos Santos Fernandes Pereira
Instrumentalist, arranger and sought-after producer, he lived in The Netherlands for nearly 30 years, before returning to Cape Verde. The music in his life began by the time he studied at the seminary, at the town of Praia. From the early age of 15, he joined a group called "Os Camponeses" which included saxophonist Nónó (later member of renowed group "Bulimundo") and Frank de Pina on drums, among others. They played at parties and dances in the interior of Santiago Island. He left Cape Verde in 1982, headed to Portugal, where he played in nightclubs, recorded with various artists, worked with the "Africa Star" group and with Paulino Vieira, among many others musicians. After almost three decades in emigration, from 2011 he lives in Praia, where he works in the Ministry of Culture and plays in places with live music. It integrates, from its creation, the "National Orchestra of Cape Verde".
