Marien Calixte was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, but lived at Espirito Santo since 10 years old. Died on December 25th, 2013 in age 78 years old by neuropathy's complications. For over five decades, he devoted himself to journalism, radio, literature, painting, music, was cultural producer, theater director, and was also managing editor of the newspaper "A Gazeta". He published two dozen books, including biographies, fiction and haiku. On the air since 1958, Marien led the program "O Som do Jazz" (The Sound of Jazz) on the radio.
