Mark Griffiths

A.k.a. Mark Griffiths

has been making music since the end of the 70s, first making various tape pieces and adding various synth noises to "left field get togethers". Right at the beginning of the 80s he got his first small synth and started doing odd tapes and music for events. He was in and out of a few bands, but then decided to work on his own. He managed to produce a tape "Paperworlds" in 1983 and got a favourable review from Electronic Music Maker and was featured on INKEY$. That first tape was a real mix with mostly short light tracks. "Crystallography" followed in 1985, with a darker mood, both in style and the sounds. Then came "K2" (named after the mountain) which used more equipment and started moving towards a "New Age" type of sound. In 1986 "Like the Passing of Summer Rain" was released on the Electronical Dreams label and consisted of mainly mid length melodic works. "From the Trees" came out in 1988, again on Electronical Dreams, followed in a similar vein. In 2003 he went digital/software and by 2004 he had started composing again. The music is coming in distinct themes, all are I guess about inner landscapes as a reflection of the worlds outside. "The Lost Harvest" (2005) is mostly about reflecting outer landscapes within, and projecting inner states onto the world. It's also about the loss of a generation and a way of life as a result of the First World War. It's about the love of the young soldiers had for their homeland. "Dreamers" (2007) is about sleep, dreaming and memories, those things that are just out of reach of our consciousness. (recorded 2006-7) Four Reveries (2007) Long ambient tracks for meditation, relaxation, therapy etc. Available at http://www.ambientmusicgarden.com/manufacturers.php?manufacturerid=20 "Strange Stars" (2008) explores space and emptiness. (recorded 2007-8) "Janus" (2008-) More overtly autobiographical material. Ongoing.
