Dance
Djing for over 25 years from the early days of house music through to the present day Mark has stayed true to the underground. As a kid either listening to records or Radio one or making mixtapes on old tape machines and a record player he soon honed his skill with basic editing. Eventually moving from tape decks to 2 belt drive record players (only 1 of these decks had a pitch control) and an old Realistic mixing desk from Radio shack Mark was able to explore the possibilities that a mixing deck provided. Many, many hours were spent learning about "the mix" and programming became second nature. Then came the Technics 1210 mk11s. Hours and hours of practice and regular djing at parties in and around Glasgow put Mark on his way to achieving what he had allways wanted, a life in records. With his smooth technical style, and intelligent track selection he was soon brought to the attention of the people at the legendary Glasgow nightclub The Sub Club. Mark was installed as one of the residents of The Sub Club and was soon able to explore and define the style that was to make him one of the best young djs in the country. He took the helm at nights such as UK Gold (with Martin Collins), Red Cell (with Richard Grey, Twitch and Domenic Cappello), Aqua Planet and Science (with Funk d´void in the dj booth). Over the course of his career including his years at the Sub Club and The Nitsa Club Mark not only played alongside the other residents Harri, Domenic Cappello, Twitch and Oscar but also alongside nearly every notable DJ of the last 25 years. Mark has played with the likes of Derrick May, Juan Atkins, Blake Baxter, Mr Fingers, Stacey Pullen, Claude Young, Joshua, Gene Farris, DJ Rush, Cajmere, Gemini, DJ Sneak, Dan Curtin, Richie Hawtin, Darren Emmerson, Slam, Mark Broom, Funk d´Void, Ralph Lawson, Kenny Hawkes, DJ Q, Joey Beltram, Baby Ford, Ian Pooley, Evil Eddie Richards, Darren Price, Faze Action, Kevin Saunderson, Schatrax, James Holroyd, Surgeon, The Advent, Carl Craig, Chez Damier, Johnny Fiasco, DJ Deep, Green Velvet, Steve Bug, Tom Middleton, Derrick Carter, Stevie Donaldson, Mr C, Larry Heard, Peter and Rene from Chain Reaction, Simon DK, Josh Brent, Nigel Hayes, Dj Dimitri, Luke Slater, Dave Angel, Dave Clarke even a memorable night with Dj Duke (at a house party in his flat in Glasgow) and many many more. It was while Djing at the Sub Club alongside Domenic Cappello, Richard Grey and Twitch, and The Volcano with Lars (Funk d´Void) that Mark was able to define his own style and smooth technique. Moving between deep house to detroit techno via stripped down, dubby maurizio tracks. A style that enabled him to hold the booth at the Sub Club by playing just the music that he loved with out resorting to the latest big tune. The highlight of his time in Glasgow was undoubtedly the times he was asked to dj at the legendary Subculture Saturday nights with Harri and Domenic, the best club night in the world. Mark left Glasgow in 1997 to move to Barcelona, Spain where he quickly established himself as one of the resident djs along with Ian Pooley and Fra, at the Nitsa club in the Apollo. He played there sharing the dj booth with some of the worlds best DJs before leaving to start his own more underground projects, Galaxy and Indeep, both in Barcelona. It was during this time that he opened Indeep Wax Record Shop in Barcelona with Josh Brent (schatrax) and Dj Tres Manos. Mark has played in nearly every major night club in Spain, from Rachdingue in the north to Industria Copera in the south, as well as many festivals, including in Spain, Benicassim and Doctor Music. He has also held residencies in two of the most important clubs in their respective countries The Sub Club and The Nitsa Club and been at the forefront of pushing the Underground agenda wherever he plays. Currently Mark is resident Dj at Indeep, Science, Black Out and Horizontal. All nights where he continues to explore the deeper side of electronic music, playing his Detroit influenced techno through to deep house, and also drum & bass and headz. His main philosophy is of moving the crowd as far as he possibly can by using the records from the very bottom of his crate and trying to give the crowd something new to listen to and remember apart from the usual dj top 10.
