Artist Portrait

Marko Beyer

key, DE
Dance, Electronic and Jazz

Marko has started as a vinyl record deejay back in 1986 when the video clip Walk This Way" by Run DMC was shown on German television. He immediately has run to his Sharp turntable and started (tried to) scratch his Queen records… ... soon - still as a young one - he has scrambled up some money to get his first Technics MK II 1200 as well as a DJ-mixer and - surprisingly ;) … - begun to annoy his parents with his first scratch attempts... A half year later he borrowed some dinero to be able to get his 2nd MK II. Then his parents as well as friends could "enjoy" his first ("slightly off-beat") mixes ;) ... By accident some month later a friend asked him to work as a deejay in a discotheque with the name Visage in the small town Wilhelmshaven... over weeks he changed the sound of this venue from Rock-Pop to HipHop, House and Acid.. (yes people, at the end of the 1980s a dj had to be able to play a wide range of music ...) His journey as a true underground turntable artist - delaying usually with three players - begun... Marko has spun vinylo in places like Tresor, Erdloch, Matrix (all Berlin), La Macarena (Barcelona), Cage (Hamburg), Rosige Zeiten (Bremen), …squatter parties (when he lived in London) ... events like Love Parade, Vision Parade, In Bed With Space... just to name few… At the beginning of 1990s he has bought one of the finest drum computer the Roland TR909 as well as the famous SH101 synthesizer, the Casio FZ1 Sampler, a Kawai K4r sound module, and a Atari 1040 ST with the Steinberg's Cubase sequencer software … and made his first steps to produce house music... In 1995 Shampoo Records - a sub-lable of Adam & Eve Records - from Düsseldorf, Germany has released his first 12inch record "House At Last" ... At the end of 1990s when he has moved from London to Berlin his first own record label dance wax came to light… In Berlin, Marko has played at several clubs and events (see above) and established beside the underground magazine TUNE IN an event radio station BFM. His station was probably the first legal station (certified by the Radio Authority of Berlin and Brandenburg) playing electronic music 24h a day on the FM dial... He has also been on several radio shows on XXL Radio, Jam FM, evosonic ... 2010 has been the year when he starter to "deejay" with Traktor ... however, he still refuses to "spin records with CDs" ... and, instead, loves to play vinyl :)
