A.k.a. Ivanildo Martins
Ivanildo Martins was born on July 8, 1929, in the city of Lagoa dos Gatos, State of Pernambuco, northwest Brazil. It was there that he has the first contacts with the embolada's côco music style, that awoke its passion by the music. At the age of 16, he moved to Recife city and began playing with regional groups. In the 1950s, he played at Tamandaré Radio, integrating Maestro Guedes Peixoto's Orchestra. In this period, already known by Martins do Pandeiro. For many years, he worked at Rádio Clube e Jornal de Pernambuco. There he had an opportunity to accompany Luiz Gonzaga, Sivuca, Ary Lobo, Gordurinha and other prominent musicians. Martins came to set up a regional ensemble in 1960, called Os Cabras do Baião, which recorded two LP.
