Matt Douglas is a woodwinds player, multi-instrumentalist, and member of The Mountain Goats and The Hot at Nights. After graduating from NYU, Matt went off to Central Europe on a Fulbright Scholarship to study Hungarian folk music. It was at that time that Matt started writing songs. After two years of escapism, Matt headed to Raleigh, NC where he joined up with guitarist Chris Boerner and drummer Matt McCaughan to form The Proclivities. In Early 2009, Matt joined with Caitlin Cary to perform in the annual Love Hangover show in Raleigh, NC. Their relationship has developed into a songwriting collaboration, out of which they formed The Small Ponds. Matt also makes up one-third of the instrumental power trio The Hot at Nights, alongside longtime collaborator Chris Boerner on 8-string guitar and Nick Baglio on drums. Throughout 2015, Matt was on tour as a multi-instrumentalist with The Mountain Goats to promote the album Beat the Champ. In 2016, Matt joined The Mountain Goats as a permanent member. Matt continues to live and work in Raleigh, North Carolina as a multi-instrumentalist, teacher, and songwriter. Matt has shared the stage with Hiss Golden Messenger, Josh Ritter, Erin McKeown, Bon Iver, Bhi Bhiman, Ari J. Picker, Chris Stamey, Ani Difranco, Tift Merritt, Nicolay, The Rosebuds, Jeanne Jolly, Jenn Grant, The Old Ceremony, American Aquarium, Kenny Roby, Laura Cortese, and many more.
