Matthew Abramo, originally from Long Island, New York, joined the Double Bass Section of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra in September 2010. Previously to performing with the LPO, Matthew was a member of the New World Symphony Orchestra in Miami Beach, and the Albany Symphony Orchestra in Upstate New York. Matthew has also participated in the Youth Orchestra of the Americas as Principal Bass, as well as the Britt Festival, Music in the Mountains, the Lucerne Festival Academy, Music Academy of the West, National Repertory Orchestra, and the Chautauqua Institute. Mr. Abramo holds a Bachelor's of Music degree with Distinction from the Eastman School of Music, where he studied with James VanDemark. He continued his studies further at SUNY Purchase, receiving a Master's of Music degree studying with Timothy Cobb. In addition to his activities with the LPO, Matthew is also a Double Bass Instructor at Tulane University's Newcomb School of Music.
