Born 1872 in Hālawa on the Island of Moloka‘i Died on February 15, 1920 in Nāpo‘opo‘o, the village on Kealakekua Bay on the Kona side of the Island of Hawai‘i Graduation from Kamehameha School for Boys in 1893 and was a classmate of composer and song-collector Charles E. King. Graduated from Normal School for Teachers and became a teacher first in Kīpahulu in the remote Hana area of Maui and later at Nāpo‘opo‘o Government School. His compositions include "Ka Makani Ka‘ili Aloha, Nā Hono A‘o Pi‘ilani" (which is more frequently titled "Moloka‘i Nui A Hina"), "Hālawa" (more frequently known as "Moloka‘i Waltz" or "He Nani Kūkilakila), and probably other songs. I know that subjective comments are not supposed to be part of Discogs entries, but I need to state that these are incredibly beautiful classical songs.
