A.k.a. Kathrin Manz
Behind the stage name "Matzumi" the listener will find the 11/16/1977 at Schwedt (ex GDR) born musician Kathrin Manz. At the age of 3 years she started to play her own tunes and melodies on kids instruments. To this day she is still self-taught and has never received musical training. Besides her passion for keyboard instruments, she also made early experiences as a background singer of a band. Only shortly after the "Wall" came down in 1989, Matzumi got her first keyboard which aroused her passion for electronic music. In 2003 she bought her first synthesizer, a Korg Triton Pro and recorded her first compositions and started to publish under the name "Matzumi" on various platforms on the Internet. Here she was discovered in 2009 by the label "CandyRush-music" where she published her first EP "Cryin' Soul" and her debut album "Sometimes". Because to this the initiators of the "Electronic Circus" became aware of her name. Like a wildfire Matzumi got to be a new name within the Electronic Music scene in Europe. Kathrin Manz is next to Dorothea Raukes (Deutsche Wertarbeit) who is no longer active, one of the few female exceptions in this genre. The debut album was followed by "Ad Infinitum", which served as the basis for her first live performances at various concerts and festivals in the EM-scene in Germany and the Netherlands, increasing her popularity. It of no surprise that she started in 2010 her first joint project with the Danish electronic musician “Nattefrost”, which led to the album "From Distant Times." Meanwhile titled as the "High Priestess of the synthesizer", she got the “Schallwelle” award for the best newcomer in this genre in 2010. For her current album "In Mutatio Tempora", which has worldwide success, she produced some tracks with “Nattefrost” and “F.D.Project”. It is no wonder, that the album was nominated as the best album of the year 2011, and Matzumi also received a nomination as best artist in the genre. Matzumi, although having studied the compositions of other musicians, has always focused on creating her own sound, thus creating a very different sound scape than other artists in the electronica scene. In addition to her beloved synthesizers she skillfully uses her voice as an equal instrument, which gives her compositions a distinctive mystical charm and distinctly sets her apart from the usual releases of this genre. She prefers to play and record her own compositions without MIDI-support, track by track, and the computer is helping to keep intuitive moments alive and to preserve them, until the next studio session will start. End of 2011 the label "CandyRush-music" ended its activities, so “Matzumi” decided to release her works in self distribution. In August 2012 she has signed a contract for worldwide digital distribution with the Wolf Entertainment Group in Sydney. In addition to the re-release of her previous albums, she is already involved in a number of new projects with other artists of the Wolf Entertainment Group.
