Maurice McKinnies, originally from Pensacola, Florida, recorded a few funk and soul singles in Minneapolis and later established himself on the Bay Area blues scene. He and his group, Maurice and Galaxy, recorded a blues 45 for Twenty Grand Records c. 1987 (his surname is spelled McKinnis on the label). He suffered a stroke shortly afterwards and his career never reached the heights some envisioned for him. The Twenty Grand was a club in Richmond, California, where he performed. He died in 2018.
