May Pang

*1950 US, New York City

A.k.a. May Fung Yee Pang

May Pang (b. 1950) is a production coordinator, best known as John Lennon's ex-girlfriend during Lennon-Ono temporary breakup in 1970s. This time was later described by Lennon as his "Lost Weekend", but May Pang disagrees, saying that "during this period, John was actually the most productive and successful in his post-Beatles career", releasing his first and last #1 single "Whatever Gets You Thru The Night" and his first #1 album Walls And Bridges, and also actively collaborating with Elton John, David Bowie, Harry Nilsson and Ringo Starr. This period also marks the only collaboration Lennon and McCartney ever had after The Beatles break-up, and this jam is documented on famous A Toot And A Snore In '74 bootleg (Pang is even credited for "Sympathy" on the back cover). May Pang started working at ABKCO Industries (Allen Klein's management company) in 1970, and she was picked as a personal assistant by Lennon and Ono when they decided to move to NYC. In June 1973, Ono notified Pang that from now on she will be a new "companion" for John, since they decided to take a break from each other. For next 18 months, May Pang was both a girlfriend and production assistant/coordinator for John Lennon. In February 1975, John and Yoko were reunited, and May Pang was no longer involved with them. Since then she worked at Island Records (coordinating albums by Bob Marley & The Wailers, Robert Palmer, Third World) and United Artists Music (recruiting songwriters for Diana Ross, Four Tops, Judas Priest). In 1983, May Pang published her memoir called "Loving John". In 1989, she married producer Tony Visconti, and they have two children together. They were divorced in 2000. In 2008, May published her second book about Lennon and their relationship - photo album called "Instamatic Karma".
