Album 2017 on Oath of Janta label
Electronic, Spoken Word, Folk, World and (Folk Rock, Experimental, Noise, Field Recording, Sound Art)
Another debut mix of personal and favourite records, this time by the new duo of Jim Strong and Thomas DeAngelo / compiled over the year, recorded in December, 2017 «Melkings is the duo of myself and James Strong, with an otherwise open membership. We originally discussed collaborating in the Winter of 2016, while working together briefly on an unrelated project, but it would take over a full year to see it through, debuting with a live performance at Jim's home in Narberth, PA this past Spring (an excerpt of which is featured here). Practice tapes from that set were used to cobble together a release for Stewart Skinner's burgeoning The Gift of Music imprint (TGM 003; should be available any day now). We intend to continue playing and putting out work for as long as it is interesting/feasible. For this mix Jim selected a few pieces from the type of rare talent whose practice incorporates sound and performance into wider delinquent relations across the arts and non-arts, which is something that influences our methodology to a great degree. I chose to include obscure 70's prog/folk featuring some mention of a specific time of year governed by annual equinoxes; one of Melkings chief operating principles is to take a very simple or pointless concept and belabor it, like bleeding a stone for all it's worth, so in this sense such a conceit "just felt right" (I also think these are all great songs, of course). Hopefully some 'Oath of Janta' listeners will agree and our efforts were not in vain.» – Thomas DeAngelo of T. D. and Crisis of Taste https://www.mixcloud.com/OAJ/melkings/ "...but then they always said that I had appalling taste, but it's me that has to say..."
