World, Jazz and Folk
Based in Baltimore, Maryland, innovative Indian-world fusion ensemble Melodic Intersect are known for their genre-bending mix of jazz, North Indian classical, rock, Eastern and Western folk traditions, and more. Formed by lauded tabla master Enayet Hossain in 2013, Melodic Intersect also feature an evolving group of musicians, including at various times guitarist Hans Utter, keyboardist Greg Hatza, santoor player Tarun Bhattacharya, sitarists Hidayat Khan and Shakir Khan, percussionist Avirodh Sharma, harmonium player and vocalist Humayoon Popal, tabla player Saleiman Azizi, and keyboardist Mahroof Sharif. The group debuted with 2014's Global Vision, followed later that year by Inner Vision, which garnered a nomination for Best World Beat album at the 14th Annual Independent Music Awards. In 2017, Melodic Intersect returned with two more albums, Looking Forward and Eastern Visions, the latter of which included contributions from classical sitar player Anjan Chattopadhyay, bassist Charles Solomon, and conga player Sam Prasad Jillella. -By Matt Collar (All Music Guide)
