Rock and Electronic
Members: Geneviève Beaulieu (Vocals, Instruments), S. De La Moth (Vocals, Instruments) Originating from Montréal, Québec in Canada, Menace Ruine are a duo who play a powerful hybrid of avant-garde black metal, dark ambient, drone and martial neo-folk. Formed in 2007, the band achieve their sound largely through the use of heavily manipulated and distorted effects and feedback, though one of their most distinctive elements is the sonorous vocals of Geneviève, reminiscent of a more melodious and doomy Nico. Their lyrics seem to centre largely on themes of occultism and the workings of fate. 'Cult of Ruins', their debut album, was a fierce black metal assault but was swiftly followed by 'The Die is Cast', which introduced more mellow strands of elegiac neo-folk into the maelstrom. This balance has been maintained and expanded through their subsequent recordings.
