Band, *1941
Singer / Musician of Jazz
US jazz pianist and vocalist, b. 1941. Born into a musically family D'Ambrosio studied both painting and music as young and by graduation was performing professionally. Earliest appearence counts singing in 1958 with Roger Kellaway. In 1966 she was offered to tour with John Coltrane - but turned him down - reportedly due to lack of confidence. It wasn't until a decade later, in 1978, she had her recording debut. Soft toned D'Ambrosio is mostly heard accompanying herself or with a small combo that suits her warm and understated interpretations of the classics, that follows in the tradition of e.g. Blossom Dearie and predates later pianists/singers like Diana Krall. Married jazz pianist, arranger Eddie Higgins in 1988.
