Musician of Latin and Jazz
A.k.a. Messias Santos Junior Messias Santos Jr.
Brazilian guitarist. Born in Jacarezinho in 1941, at the age of 6 Messias learned music theory and drum from his father, a guitar teacher and a percussionist. For about three years he took part, as guitarist and singer, in a dance-music group called Cry Babies. Then moved to San Paulo, where performed in local nightclubs and gradually became very popular, so that he was contracted by Continental (3) which in 1964 released his first compact Sem Bossa (see “Cash Box”, May 30, 1964, p. 64), then by RCA Brazil, which released Messias’s first LP (Messias E A Musica De Chico Buarque De Hollanda). With his full name he mostly worked as a composer-arranger (see Messias Santos Jr.). He died in 1985 in a car accident.
