Album UK 2001 on Black Operations label
Electronic, Jazz and Rock (Avant-garde Jazz, Experimental, Noise, Free Improvisation, Free Jazz, Drone, Ambient, Minimal)
Promo release collecting oTo T22 and oTo T34 cassettes released on Fencing Flatworm's (oTo) / (Ordnance Tape Only) series. The Prestidigitators is titled 'oTo T??' as this CD-R was made prior to the cassette and before it's (oTo) number was known. Both this CD-R and the (oTo) cassette contain the original version of what became 'The Prestidigitators' CD-R released on Fiend Recordings. This original version is indexed as one track, is structured/edited slightly different in places, has sound cut-ups, voice samples, etc inbetween all of the tracks, has an extra track ('Bill Bruford' - a distorted drum solo) and some track titles are different. Tracks 2-II and 2-III are listed in the incorrect order and should be the other way around., 1 recorded, edited, mixed between March 2000 > June 2001 2 recorded, edited, mixed between October 1998 > July 2001 Approx 20-25 copies made all of which were given or sent to friends and regular contacts around that time. A xerox copy of the small low quality Peter Kurten image used on Come Organisation cassette releases was added to the front covers of around a handful of copies MG sent to friends who he knew were big Whitehouse fans (including a member of Brainbombs and members of Smell & Quim, who at the time had recently released a Whitehouse parody record, 'Sweet Tooth') and also gave the blank tracks 2-i and 2-VII - both of which are just 30 seconds of total silence - the titles 'Dedicated To Ed Kemper' (whose voice appears briefly in the following track) and 'Birthdeath Prestidigitation' assuming the recipients would realise it was just a (bad!) parody of sorts, however 'the joke' totally backfired when, with good intentions, one recipient forwarded their copy to a magazine (Adverse Effect) who weren't to know one way or the other, and after writing a review which praised some of the music, then rightly slandered the artwork, etc as if it had been genuine!!!
