Michael Ochs, born 1943 in Austin, Texas, is a music photo archivist, funk and rock photographer, artist manager, record company publicist, journalist, music consultant for films, disc jockey, is the younger brother of prominent folk and folk-rock singer Phil Ochs. He was a rising photographer at about the same time he became his sibling's manager around early 1967. He headed the publicity departments of Columbia, Shelter, and ABC Records in the 60's and 70's. He has also taught a rock-history course for UCLA and written for such magazines as Rock, Melody Maker, Cashbox, and Crawdaddy and was instrumental in the compilation of posthumous Phil Ochs reissues. He established the Michael Ochs Archives in the mid-70s, which currently house millions of photographs and over 100,000 albums and singles. In 2007 Ochs sold the Michael Ochs Archives to Getty Images for an undisclosed amount.
