British broadcaster, journalist, and author. Born: 29 March 1935 in Cudworth, West Riding Of Yorkshire, England, UK. Sir Michael Parkinson CBE (affectionally known as "Parky"), is probably best known for presenting the eponymous chat show "Parkinson" on both the BBC and ITV TV networks in the UK for over 35 years, over 31 series' plus five specials, between the 1970s and 2000s (1971–1982, 1987–1988, and 1998–2007 – moving to ITV 2004–2007). He also broadcast on radio, and has written as a sports journalist, and authored several children's books. He is well known as being a fan of jazz music, and has prominently featured jazz musicians on both his TV and radio shows over the years, along with other types of music.
