A.k.a. D58
Amateur fan remixer, active from 1984 to 2009. Mostly known in the Depeche Mode and Recoil fan-scene. In 1984, Michael began to create "extended versions" by editing using the tape-recorder and its mechanical pause-function. The very first "mix" was Depeche Mode's People Are People. Though focus was always on Depeche Mode and related music there's a wide vary of artists and genres that have been mixed. Very first mixes where mostly named "Special Mix" and no mixers alias was given. This changed in 1986 when Off released Electrica Salsa (Baba Baba). The lyrics 'it's me my friend, the master of salsa' inspired Michael to the usage of "T.M.S" and all mixes back from 1984 were numbered with the "MASTERxxx" prefix. Mixes were always a combination of live-mixing on turntables and editing on tape, later on with reel-to-reel 4-track tape-machine. In 1999 mixing was taken to the next level by dropping the tapes and doing the editing and multi-track mastering on computer based stuff. At this time the name "T.M.S" was also dropped and "diddl58" was born, later shortened to D58. In the 2000's, when fan-mixing reached its first height in the internet, Michael was very active in various Depeche Mode fan forums. At that time the Strangelove Message Board even had the permission by Mute Germany to release fan-mixes under certain conditions. Michael, along with a few others, was very active there. (Permission of course was withdrawn when EMI bought Mute Records) In 2003 - still active with mixing tracks, megamixes and mixed ep's - Michael formed the idea of not only doing fan mixing but also creating his own music. The workflow was quite similar to his way of mixing and so it was only a question of time to do this step. 2004 then saw the first L.I.X. release Unfolded Sky, a dark downtempo strings-collection. Second release, One Six, Too, is a more uptempo track and has been remixed by Michaels forum friends widely. Due to lack of time the L.I.X. project has not been continued. Even D58 came to a standstill in 2009, although friends worldwide asked for continuation. The very only release under its own name is an unnamed track that has been recorded with a live acoustic guitar and pre-programmed playbacks.
