Funk - soul - disco - boogie - jazz guitarist Born and raised in Detroit. Has done plenty of session work for the likes of Funkadelic, Dramatics, Sister Sledge, Billy Preston, Barbara Mason etc. Michael Stevenson is a guitarist, guitar-synth player, lead vocalist, and background vocalist. A member of The Sounds of Unity, a member of Category Five. Songwriter - Producer - Publisher - Copyist - Arranger - Teacher - Mixing Engineer - Music Director - Web Master Michael Stevenson was born and raised in Detroit, MI. He began his guitar studies with Mr. William Warren at the Northwestern House of Music and Dance. There he later obtained a position as a teacher of guitar, bass, Harmony and Theory. Michael's first performance was as a member in the Springhill Baptist Church Junior Choir. His first performance as a guitarist was at the Detroit Institute of Arts. Prior to leaving Detroit, Michael played with The Capitals, Orthea Barnes, Toni Booker, and Kasuku Mafia's Young Success Band. His first studio experience working with Motown songwriters Sylvia Moy and Jamie Branford. After leaving Detroit Michael traveled across the USA, Canada, and Japan as a member of the Show Bands 'U.C.C.B.' and 'Sweet Taste of Sin/Sweet Story'. Michael played behind or shared the stage with such musical greats as: Ike and Tina Turner Gene Ammons Major Lance The Funkadelics David Ruffin Dennis Edwards Charles Wright Barbara Mason Billy Preston The Spinners The Dramatics The Chi-Lites Johnny Taylor Graham Central Station Garland Green Z. Z. Hill Sisters Sledge Edwin Starr The Floaters The Miracles The Vandellas Rudy Ray Moore "Some of the most memorable meetings and friendships I made while in L.A. include: Alex Haley Little Richard Ed Townsend David Townsend Maurice White & Philip Bailey of Earth Wind & Fire Johnny Otis Shuggie Otis David II Fred Wesley Rickey Minor." Michael also Co-Produced an album on his ex-wife Mary Love, and wrote songs with her. He worked as a Musical Director, Copyist, Songwriter, Studio musician, Musician on Motion Picture soundtracks including 'American Pop', Publisher (Lovenson Music), Producer (Stevenson-Love Productions), and Epic Records Recording Artist with the band "The Dr.s" (Album entitled 'Rx 1'). Michael returned to Detroit where he played behind The Floaters and Five Special. He also started another Publishing company (Ssor Music). Michael has performed with the Gospel artist Jamison And Company. And performed in the orchestra as guitarist/synth-guitarist for the Rosedale Park Players rendition of “The Wiz” with Musical Director William Wooten. Michael has been a member of several local groups, including Labyrinth, Just Us, Stay Awhile, and The Running Hot Band. Michael also performed behind The Miracles and also The Original Vandellas with Musical Director Mickey Atkins. Michael is one of the musicians for the church choir at Second New Hope Baptist Church in Ferndale, MI.
