Rock (Pop Rock)
Frantisek Janecek's group called KROKY (The Paces) is appearing on the Czechoslovak music scene since 1975 and it has begun like the backing-group for the solo singers; the group was backing the girl singers Jana Kratochvilova and Nad'a Urbankova. But when one day the group's leader Frantisek Janecek found, that there's noone to sing with the band, he decided not to try to get a new singer, but to try it on the "domestic" base. The leading vocal was offered to the keyboard player Michal DAVID, but the rest of musicians sing as well. The group KROKY consists of: Frantisek JANECEK — leader, keyboards; Michal DAVID — lead vocal, keyboards; Jin BARDA - bass; Jifi NEPOMUCKY - electric guitar; Milan DYK — guitar and Jan PROKOP — drums. The group KROKY does orient itself almost 100% to self;penned material, being written half to half by the band's leader and by the lead singer. The repertoire is influenced not by the Anglo American music model, which attracts a lot of other groups all over Europe, but if there's any source of inspiration, it's the work of the up todate Italian singers and groups. A few non original songs, that Michal David sings with KROKY group, comes from the sunny Italy. The band tries to produce the songs with catchy beating melodies, not too complicated on one side and not too easy on the other, the band doesn't experiment nonsencely and does attract the audience or the record-collectors with solid rock music, clever arrangements precise backing vocals, Michal David's charming lead vocal and good sound. Michal David has gained the second place at the prestigeous International Music Festival called Intertalent (1981 in Gottwaldov) and the Audience-Prize by the public. In the year of 1980 he was placed 27th on the popularity poll called The Golden Nightingale, which is being organized by Young World weekly magazine. The year later he was voted second, right next to the long-time winner Karel Gott. As it seems, the exceptional success of Frantisek Janecek's group Kroky and Michal David was gained mainly by the fact, that the group's songs don't play any tricks and don't pretend anything. They're easy to listen, they've got pleasant melodies and they're full of happiness. They're bringing the welcome refreshment to the current music scene — the refreshment that is always being desired for.
