Michael Rod was a woodwind player from New York City. His most famous lick is the flute lead line in Van McCoy's 'The Hustle'. To make ends meet between gigs he became a high school music teacher at Franklin K. Lane H.S. in Brooklyn, NY. In 1981, under his tutelage, that schools Jazz Band became the first musical group in the history of the New York City school system to record and press an album entitled Familiar Faces. Mike Rod died of a heart attack in the late 1980's. His saxophone and flute can be heard on numerous 1970's records.
