Mike Taylor is a Philadelphia born artist who fuses pieces of pop culture with intelligent lyrics and infectious melodies. He draws inspiration from diverse sources, whether it is music from artists like The Roots and Paul Simon, or thinkers like Malcolm Gladwell. Other influences include the comedic stylings of Richard Pryor and the visual beauty of Basquiat. These influences spring forth big Peter Gabriel-esque vocals, anthemic choruses, and uptempo danceable beats that are enriched with nostalgia. Although the 80’s aesthetic of new wave and electro have a strong presence, at any given time Mike makes a point of highlighting his formidable rap skills. His background in hip-hop continues to show even as he takes you on a genre bending journey. Mike Taylor aims to create a space from the stage that unites the audience and performer alike in an electrified atmosphere. His music is evocative, and he hopes to leave people inspired.
