Album US 2017 on Apollo Music Group label
Dance (House)
Back with a vengeance on the Apollo label is none other than Los Angeles hawt boy, Mikey V. His last collaboration single 'Revolution' with Chicago's The Outfit, was featured in Mixmag UK and received rave reviews around the globe. This release 'The Jones' has no shortage of the Chicago bump that Apollo is becoming widely known for and features a brilliant set of remixes by the one and only, JT Donaldson. Wasting no time, the original mix kicks off hard, with a crisp shuffled beat, quite reminiscent of the programming heard by Brett Johnson. Mikey adds the low end and quickly gets moving on the vox; 'Pick your poison, pick your vice, gotta have it all the time' is the rhyme heard in 4/4 time on this cut. With heavy delays, space echos, all the right pans and dark analog key stabs, this track hits in all the right places. One might also assume that we all have our vices, making this an easy theme to assimilate with. Moving on to the remix tip, we have the infamous Texas ninja, JT Donaldson. JT has been taking fools to school in the studio since his early work with Spencer Kincy in 1996. Over the years, he's also produced alongside Chris Nazuka, Lance DeSardi and Chris Penny to name a few. JT's work has been featured on countless timeless labels of our time including Cajual, Vista, LowDown, Aesoteric, OM, Freerange and many more. JT flexes his Chicago swag on his 'Acid Version' of The Jones and turns up the low end quite a bit. This mix features a warped out 303 pattern that is constantly en flux under several different pads that bring you back to the feeling of the famous loft parties on Milwaukee Ave in Chicago (yea, we went there). It's a beautifully crafted mix that travels around the vox and is balanced perfectly with a bouncy analog bass that sits ever so naturally over the kick. It's that ever so dirty, yet ever so classy mix that will play out timelessly over the years. Pick your poison! Rounding out the release, JT does what he does best and gives you just the beats and the vox in his 'Percapella Dub'. It's probably a fair reminder that if anyone's records have gotten rinsed into 'warp status' over the years, JT has had several of them and this mix isn't sitting second chair to anyone. It's just a nasty beat with Mikey's vox and will sit over the top of anything you want, letting you take the party anywhere you want. You got 'The Jones'!
