Walasia "MJ" Shabazz nee' Miranda Jane the infamous voice featured on MF DOOM-produced albums MF Grimm ~ The Downfall of Iblys and MF DOOM & Madlib's MadVillainy where she also served as the A&R executive. Her voice is featured on Hieroglyphics' producer/DJ DJ Toure's album "Toure's Theory" as well as his production tag for 101% Music (Too $hort, Tajai, Nio the Gift, E-40 & many more). A child prodigy singer/songwriter and "Jazz Baby" she is the daughter of Free Jazz pioneer bassist Buell Neidlinger and Jazz drummer Deborah Murray Fuss. Born Miranda Jane Neidlinger she made a name for herself in the marketing/promotions and publicity fields in her early teens in the Los Angeles Hip Hop scene, eventually rising to the top of the Hip Hop media field as a (founding) Senior editor of Complex Magazine & Complex Media, Associate Editor of The Source Magazine, and STRESS: NY's Illest Mag's first & only West Coast Editor. As a freelance writer her fiction and nonfiction work has been featured in Rap Pages, the LA Weekly, Elemental Magazine, Mass Appeal, Medium.com, and her photojournalism has been published in numerous magazines and websites across the globe. She is one of only a handful of women to be a top magazine editor then segue into executive roles at a number of high-profile "major-indie" record labels. She is the former General Manager of Angeles Records (DJ Muggs / Aaron "Chace Infinite" Johnson / DJ Khalil-owned) where she oversaw releases from DJ Muggs vs. The GZA (Wu-Tang Clan), Self Scientific and Mitchy Slick of Strong Arm Steady). She is the current General Manager of Tajai Massey-owned (Souls of MIschief, Hieroglyphics) Clear Label Media Group and Clear Label Records (D-Lo, Shady Nate, Baby Jaymes, FamSyrk) and owns an imprint label under CLMG called "Noor Science" (Soul King). The former Business Manager of MF DOOM from MMM...Food, Viktor Vaughn, King Ghidorah and MadVillain, she is responsible for introducing DOOM to Madlib as well as A&R work on the album MadVillainy which features her voice on the song "Fancy Clown". She currently manages legendary Hip Hop producer The Architect, the MC Nowaah the Flood, rapper Ca$ablanca, production team The Mali Empire and works with numerous artists, labels, and imprints as a consultant. In her "spare" time she is a private chef & baker, specializing in vegan, vegetarian, Halal and macrobiotic cuisine. With Hip Hop being the driving force for all of her business & personal passion projects, she has naturally cooked for many of your favorite artists & musicians, offering flavorful creations as a private chef and/or on-set/green-room caterer for a slew of Hip Hop artists including Thirstin Howl 3rd, Shafiq Husayn, The Beatnuts, Kurious Jorge, MF Grimm, Graffiti artist KEO TOP, DJ Muggs, MF DOOM, C-Rayz Walz, Dana Dane, GZA, Planet Asia, DJ Quik, Dilated Peoples, Hieroglyphics, Freestyle Fellowship, the Likwit Crew, Anderson Paak fka Breezy Lovejoy, Souls of Mischief, Equipto of Bored Stiff, Sunspot Jonz and BOAC, author Adam Mansbach, Dedan of dead prez, Self Scientific, Dana Dane and many more. Her pies, cakes, cookies & candies, both traditional and medicinal, are also renown in the Hip Hop community with clientele such as Chino XL, Immortal Technique & The Jacka. She is noted as the creator of the Vegan Bean Pie, and is known for making global cuisines healthy. Her recipes have appeared in the Supreme Design Publishing books The Hood Health Handbook, Vols. 1 & 2. Her Hip Hop-themed cookbook is in progress.
