A.k.a. Sister Miriam K. Spencer
A passionate advocate for peace and justice who willingly spent time in prison to protest the training of Latin American soldiers in Fort Benning, Georgia's School of the Americas. Born in 1925 in Canyon, British Columbia, Miriam Spencer entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace in 1945, and ministered as a math and science teacher in Nelson, B.C., Seattle, Tacoma and Wenatchee. In later ministry, she taught math and computer skills to children in low-income housing and to her fellow prisoners. Died November 22, 2017 in Seattle.
