Miss Maudie Carlson

World

"Miss Maudie" Carlson, in her early years, played piano accompaniment for artists playing in Topeka such as Gene Autry, Roy Rogers and Liberace. By the 1940s she became WIBW (Topeka, KS) radio station's first pianist and later program director. Among other shows, she played for "Farm Time Jamboree" and "Piano Ramblings." Miss Maudie was married to Dude Hank (real name LeRoy Carlson, sometimes given as Roy Carlson), a trumpet player, and together they played in the Saturday Night Kansas Roundup Gang which played around the Topeka area.
