Mita comes from a family of musicians. Mita got initiated by her father, Sri Indubhushan Gupta, a disciple of Sri Usharanjan Mukhopadhyaya. Mita's music lessons continued under the magical guidance of her uncle Sri Baroda Gupta, Smt. Maya Sen and Pundit Lakshmishankar. After Graduating from Calcutta University in Philosophy, Mita pursued her quest for music and graduated in Rabindrasangeet with Honors in 1985 from Rabindra Bharati University (founded by Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore), Kolkata. Mita continued her unstoppable quest for learning and received the prestigious "Sangeet Prabhakar" and "Sangeet Bibhakar" degrees from Allahabad Prayag Sangeet Sammelan, a renowned Music school in Allahabad, India. For the last few years Mita is taking regular lessons from Pandit Jayanta Bose in Kolkata. Mita has been a honorary member of the advisory committee of Sarbabharatiya Sangeet-O-Sanaskiri Parishad from the year 2010. [u]Career Highlights:[/u] Padmabhushan Manna Dey, the legendary singer, blessed Mita for her "consummate" presentation of Rabindrasangeet. Mita is not only the most celebrated Rabindrasangeet singer of North America, but also a very admired artist in Kolkata. She has performed on several occasions at Rabindrasadan and Shovabazar “Rajbari” for the annual Rabindrajayanti celebration. Mita has the rare distinction of performing regularly at the Dakshineswar Kali Temple during the Kali Puja festival. Mita has performed on many occassions at the North American Bengali Conference (NABC) annual events in Philadelphia , Toronto (Canada) , San Clara , Los Angeles , and New York , (for the 25th. Silver Jubilee celebarion). Mita has performed all over U.S.A, Canada, and parts of Europe. She has been featured on most Kolkata TV channels (Doordarshan Channel DD7, Tara Bangla TV, ETV Bangla, MonTV), All India Radio (FM 107MHz), and Radio Snap, and American Radio Networks Atlanta Radio Network WRFG (FM 89.3) and Portland Radio Networks (KBOO-FM 90.7 and KKEY-AM1150). [u]Passion:[/u] Mita's passion is to help the needy. She performed for the Nargis Dutt Cancer Foundation with Hindi film actor, director and producer Mr. Sunil Dutt and superstar Mr. Rajendrakumar. In 2002, Mita initiated the fund raising movement for ailing Miss Sulaghna Mukhopadhaya, who was fighting Scaloderma. Mita raised funds for Street Children International of New York City, U.S.A.and for Samadrita, Kolkata, India.
