Monica Silverstrand , born Barwén January 4, 1960 , is a Swedish country and rock singer . She is a resident of Johanneshov in Stockholm . In the beginning of her career, Silverstrand sang in the Swedish dance band Wizex and under the maiden name Barwén she participated in the Swedish Melodifestivalen 1980 in the group Chips. She has also participated in the Swedish Melodifestivalen 1993 and 1995 and played in musicals such as Fame and Kristina from Duvemåla. In 2003 she released her first solo album, which contains rock songs. The sequel was called Been There, Done That. New EP with 3 new songs released in 2008. She has also sung together with the Norwegian dance band Jetz and maintained peacekeeping forces in Kosovo as a fieldist . She has also been singing coaching on the artist program at the Folk University in Stockholm for several years, and also for Sunwing. In 1996 she played the lead in Thore Skogman's musical Guldhatten at Säffleoperan. She has participated in the TV show Så ska det låta and in the Ted Gärdestad musical Sol, Vind & Vatten 2005 at Chinateatern in Stockholm. In 2011 she participated in the cooking program Halv åtta hos mig on TV 4. She went to the final in Country-SM 2008. Silverstrand's project Country Rox plays country rock and won two categories at Country-SM 2010. Silverstrand was one of the artists at Hovturnén 2009 together with Wille Crafoord and Mikael Samuelson. Since 2011 she is living in Marbella, Spain, where she regularly provides concerts all over the Costa del Sol.
