Artist Portrait

Mordor

Rock

The band was created in 2007 by well-known musicians who prefer to use fantasy pseudonyms instead of their names, and to keep their faces hidden under makeup. The musicians consider February 2008 as the official birthday of the band, as that is when MORDOR had its first solo gig at the Moscow bike club. In the same year, the band released its debut full-format album “Glamour, Glamour!”, which received critical acclaim in Russia and abroad. The album was recorded at the Moscow studio Parametrika, and was mastered in New York at Masterdisk studio, by Howie Weinberg, the producer renowned for his work with Nirvana, Pantera, Rammstein and dozens of other international rock stars. The presentation of the album took place in Moscow’s B-2 club, where the band put on an extravagant show, with theatrical costumes, thunderous sound and spectacular visuals. The track “Fitness the Killer” was chosen as the debut video for the album and was directed by the Latvian film director Viktor Vilks. In 2010, MORDOR released their second album “Thirst!”, made in collaboration with the same producers as “Glamour, glamour!” Tracks from this album were played on the leading radio stations of Russia. The band perform regularly at the largest rock festivals in the country, including “Nashestvie”, “Rock over Volga”, “Nashi v gorode”, Bike-show in Sebastopol, and many others, where they have shared the stage with internationally renowned rock acts such as Limp Bizkit, Deep Purple, Garbage, Apocalyptica, Skunk Anansie, Tarja Turunen. MORDOR have supported Tanzwut at its performances in Moscow and St Petersburg; played at the Narvabike international bikefest; and performed its show at several venues in Berlin. In 2011, the band released a concert DVD “32 Inches”, which includes the recording of MORDOR’s show at the Moscow club P!PL, where the band played all the songs from the previous two albums, accompanied by a theatrical pyrotechnics show and a video installation. At the end of 2012, the band released their third album, entitled “Demons”, where they continued to experiment with the sound of their compositions. Two of the tracks on this album (“Eye to Eye” and “Above the Stars”) were recorded accompanied by a string octet, and one track includes female opera vocals. Like the previous two albums, this album was recorded at the Moscow studio Parametrika, and mastered by Howie Weinberg in LA.
