Cousin of funk artist Sly Stone. A preacher's kid, Moses Tyson, Jr. grew up steeped in gospel music, and he learned to play the organ when he was just 12 years old. The Vallejo, California native picked up the Hammond B-3 primarily by ear, and credits his cousin Sly Stone with helping him develop his onstage swag. His first studio project was 1992's I Made Up My Mind. Since then, he has collaborated with both sacred and secular artists and his love for all kinds of music informs his recordings, which are simultaneously inspirational and funky.
