Album CA 2011 on Blood 'N' Tongue label
Jazz, Blues, Folk, World and (Easy Listening, Free Improvisation, Contemporary Jazz)
There is nothing more difficult than simplicity. There is nothing more challenging than trying to create a complete picture with only the most basic of elements. This collection seeks to explore the simplicity of sound and reveal the world of nuances which lay hidden beneath the surface. Stripped of all but the essential ingredient, we take the time to contemplate each petal of the rose. Recorded at Blood 'n' Tongue, Vancouver, BC, June 15 to 21, 2011. Each piece in this collection involved recording a single improvised performance on a different specific instrument. No overdubs were used on any track. Each is a "solo" performance intended to capture as much of the subtlety of the instrument as possible. This includes every squeak, creak and crack that was present in the sound. Instruments were chosen based on their ability to generate a full dynamic range of frequencies. All performances were recorded in real time.
