Mustapha Skandrani, (November 17, 1920 in the Lower Casbah, Algiers – October 2005) is an Algerian pianist, performer of chaâbi music. His family was native of Cherchell (Tipasa) and according to him, its origins are from Iskander, a town in Turkey.He grew up and studied until the elementary certificate without problem in the secular Casbah. The lower part of the Casbah where he was born is near the sea and the port of Algiers and was, at the time of the splendor of the city, a major shopping district.
