A.k.a. Rik Kooyman

Rik Kooyman, aka Myrkur, started his DJ carreer in January 2008, after receiving positive feedback from the Dutch dubstep community for his track ‘Entanglement’. In January he contributed to U-Dub’s Viral Radio show, and in February he had his first gig on the Deep Medi II night in the Melkweg - Amsterdam. Since March 2008, Myrkur has been the resident DJ of Dubstance in Nieuwe Nor, Heerlen. In April 2008 he started, together with Nika, the Radical crew, organising Radical nights every 3 months in the OT301 venue in Amsterdam and doing a radioshow, first monthly on the Patapoe Pirate Radio station and since late 2008 a weekly show on friday’s at Sub FM, dubstep’s biggest internet radio station. Myrkur has been heavily influenced by genres such as IDM, Post-Rock, Breakcore and Ambient and music from artists like Radiohead, Sigur Rós and Helios. The name Myrkur stands for ‘darkness’ in Icelandic, and has been taken from a songtitle by Sigur Rós.
