The mbalax band started out after an inspiring visit to the Njawara village in the northern Gambia. Bandleader Nikolas Viisanen was mesmerized by the perplex sabar drumming and dance of the wolof people. Back in Sweden he has continued to discover the sabar music and mbalax which is the popular music of Senegal and Gambia.
