NOW = ANGELA LAST + GEORGE CHRYSOSTOMOU + JUSTIN PATON NOW was founded in 1998 with the aim to bring together adventurous multi-instrumentalists who are as much in love with analogue synthesizers and electronics as they are with guitars, percussion and traditional instruments to play experimental pop. Before releasing their first album in 2006 to critical acclaim, NOW worked with visionary underground musicians such as Can’s Damo Suzuki (a joint album was released in 2007), Charles Hayward (This Heat) & Kaori Tsuchida (Go! Team). They also attracted support slots with bands such as Faust, Circle, Tunng, Psapp, Rothko, Plaid and A Hawk And A Hacksaw. NOW have performed in a variety of venues and genres, from outdoor rock festivals (e.g. Summer Sundae, Tapestry goes West) to gallery based sound art. Now have also written commissioned music for many compilations (e.g. Albino Radio, Two of the Beatles have died, Pie Paper (NZ) and exhibitions (e.g. Harold Offeh’s ‘Being Mammy’). NOW have released several albums, which you can see here on Discogs, although a more detailed one is on the band website. Live, NOW move between melodic songs and energetic improvisation. The band has played inside and outside the UK, including a Japan tour in 2009 to promote their album ‘Ooodipooomn’, of which Plan B magazine writes: "Pursuing their offbeat, off-kilter and occasionally off-the-wall mashup of lo-fidelity experimental pop music and uptempo kosmik grooves at the fringes of undergound and overground success, NOW continue to demonstrate the tireless heart of their being is something close to an unsung national treasure." NOW could be described as catchy, contemporary, exotic, messy, harmonious and disharmonious 21st century pop.
