A.k.a. Juanita Naima Coltrane (née Austin)
First wife of jazz saxophonist John Coltrane, marrying him October 3, 1955 (January 2, 1926 - October 1, 1996). Her Muslim name was Syeeda, or Saeeda). John Coltrane dedicated one of his most influential tracks to her under the simply named ballad "Naima", composed in 1959 for his classic album "Giant Steps" (1960). He would perform it endlessly in his career, and also re-recorded it several times. She was also first cousin of brothers Earl Grubbs and Carl Grubbs (aka The Visitors (10)), and they did a cover of "Naima" on their album "Neptune" (1972), also covering on their album "In My Youth" (1973), Coltrane's track "Giant Steps" (which incidentally featured along with track "Naima" on Coltrane's original album of the same name; "Giant Steps").
