Band, 1989-1999
Rock
Danish indie band from Copenhagen centered around the songs of Kasper Andersen, active from from 1987 to 1999. The band was formed as Naked Lunch by Kasper Andersen (vocal, guitar) and Jacob Als Thomsen (vocals, guitar), who met in high school. Andersen started out as drummer, but switched to guitar after Thomsen left temporarily to study at Durham University. The band shortened their name to Naked in 1994 shortly before the release of the debut album. By this time, Thomsen was back with Anders Reuss as third guitarist, Emil Landgreen on drums and Andreas Koch (2) on bass. During the recording Landgreen left to join Speaker Bite Me and was replaced by Rene Thorny. Astrid Johansen joined on viola after the second album. Naked introduced the experimental, noisy and distortion-laden sound of then contemporary American and British indie-rock to the Copenhagen music scene, and later turned towards a more introverted style which still maintained these dissonant elements but tempered them with almost folk-like arrangements. The band changed their name to The Naked before releasing their final record in 1999, shortly before the breakup. Some of the band members continued in Ensemble Orlando.
