Nana Forte (*1981) graduated in composition from the Music Academy in Ljubljana in 2005. She continued her postgraduate studies at Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber in Dresden and at Universität der Künste in Berlin. Her list of works includes compositions for solo instruments, chamber music, orchestral music, opera and several pieces for choir. Nana Forte is one of the few younger slovenian composers, which are devoting a lot of attention to compose new works for choir. While studying she collaborated with many slovenian choirs and conductors and was awarded a number of prizes for her work in choral composition. Her compositions are being performed in concerts and festivals all around the world (Austria, Italy, Hungary, Finnland, United Kingdom, Spain, Belgium, Germany, Portugal, Serbia, Sweden, USA, Korea, Singapur...) and have been broadcasted by various european classical radio stations. In year 2007 she was chosen to represent the Republic of Slovenia in the project "European Ensemble Academy", organized by the German Music Council (Deutscher Musikrat) on the occasion of the German presidency of the European Union. Her piece "Chiming" ("Pritrkavanje"), composed for a chamber ensemble specially for this event, has been performed in Dortmund, Bremen, Ljubljana, Rome and Brussels. In August 2007 her orchestral composition “Genesis” was performed at the festival of “Young Euro Classic” in Berlin with the Music Academy Orchestra Ljubljana with the conductor George Pehlivanian and soloists Jože Kotar (Cl.) and Borut Zagoranski (Acc.). In the same year she also presented her piece for choir »Libera me« at the »Music Biennale Zagreb« in Croatia. “Libera me“ for two mixed choirs was obligatory piece at the finals of the 5th International Competition for Young Choral Conductors Europa Cantat in Ljubljana in 2009 and is being performed by Slovenian and other European Choirs (APZ Tone Tomšič University of Ljubljana, Norwegian Youth Choir, Swedish Radio Choir, Bavarian Radio Choir, SYC Ensemble Singers, Allmänna Sången, Via-nova-chor...). In year 2011 she took part at the project MusmA (Music Masters on Air), a cooperation of 10 festivals in partnership with their 10 radio stations, where she was representing Slovenia. For this occasion she was commissioned a new piece for piano solo. Her composition „A broken car“ was succesfully performed in six European music festivals in Belgium, Italy, Serbia, Portugal, Hungary and Slovenia. Her choral piece "Sancta Trinitas" was performed during the World Youth Choir 2017 concert tour in Serbia, Croatia, Hungary, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Slovenia. In July 2017 her piece "En ego campana" for double mixed choir was performed at Baltic Sea Festival with Swedish Radio Choir and the conductor Peter Dijkstra. She took part at ISCM World Music Days 2017 in Vancouver. Her orchestral piece "Zaklinjanje" (Incantation) was performed by Victoria Symphony. In the last few years she is also exploring the field of opera and music theatre. Her opera debut “Paradies oder nach Eden“ was first performed in 2016 in Vorarlberger Landestheater Bregenz in Austria. She lives and works in Slovenia.
