A Japanese composer and conductor born in Tokyo. (December 16, 1932 - 18 June 2002) His wife is a composer 山本 正美 (Masami Yamamoto). His eldest son is also a composer 山本 純ノ介 (Junosuke Yamamoto). His second son is Cellist 山本 祐ノ介 (Yuunosuke Yamamoto) His father is a composer and director 山本 直忠 (Naotada Yamamoto). His younger brother is percussionist 山本 直喜 (Naoki Yamamoto). His younger brother is a bassoon player 山本 直親 (Naochika Yamamoto). 渡辺 岳夫 (Takeo Watanabe) and 小澤征爾 (Seiji Ozawa) are friends of his high school days.
