The National Philharmonic of Russia (NPR), or Национальный филармонический оркестр России (НФОР), is a Russian symphonic orchestra, established in 2003 and based at the Moscow International Performance Arts Center (Дом музыки). Vladimir Spivakov serves as an Artistic Director and Principal Conductor since the inception. In 2006, Ion Marin became a principal guest conductor. Other prominent maestros who performed with NPR include Thomas Sanderling, Teodor Currentzis, Vladimir Simkin, Alexei Stepanov, James Conlon, Krzysztof Penderecki, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Otto Tausk, Alexander Vedernikov, Tugan Sokhiev, Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Jan Latham-König, John Nelson (5), Michel Plasson, and Okko Kamu. Many world-famous soloists appeared on stage with The National Philharmonic of Russia, such as violinists Gidon Kremer, Gil Shaham, Hilary Hahn, Laurent Korcia, cellists Natalia Gutman, Alexander Kniazev, and pianists Barry Douglas, Boris Berezovsky, Kun Woo Paik, Marc-André Hamelin. NPR accompanied opera stars Jessye Norman, Placido Domingo, José Carreras, Kiri Te Kanawa, Dmitri Hvorostovsky, Maria Guleghina, Juan Diego Florez, Matthias Goerne, Waltraud Meier, Ferruccio Furlanetto, Marcelo Álvarez, Ramón Vargas, Violeta Urmana, and Anna Netrebko.
