Musician of Electronic and Dance
A.k.a. Nebojsa Simic
It was the first visit to the legendary Belgrade underground club Industria that did it for Nebes. Clearly hypnotised by the power of the music, the sub bass and the people he partied with, he left the club that night with only one intention on his mind – to become the part of the dance music world. At only 14 Nebes was already vinyl hunting and promoting the latest electronic music with the group of his closest mates. He also had a regular Sunday slot, on the local FM radio. As the popularity of the show grew, his keen sense for fresh music and dj-ing talent have led him straight out of the radio studio and onto the local clubs dancefloors. He recalls those first parties as full of positive energy, enthusiasm and true love for music. Consequently in the 1999 Nebes started an organisation ‘Reactor’ with his best mate Spok (no he didn’t have pointy ears…), and from than on the local scene has truly started to flourish and the major party line ups have been graced by the biggest names of Serbian club scene at the time, such as Marko Nastic, Dejan Milicevic, Milosh Pavlovic to name a few. As Reactor ‘lived long and prospered’ the parties kept growing and in 2001 Nebes kicks off the famous ‘Good Mood Explosion’ party series in the ancient Smederevo fortress bringing over the top crop of Serbian and Europian DJ’s. As a techno DJ at that time, Nebes has had a chance to play alongside the likes of Billy Nasty, Brenda Russell, Hardcell, Johan Bacto, Asem Shama, Vlad Sokolov. His love of musical hardware and technology has inevitably led him to start using such equipment in his sets and very quickly in his production too. His production has always had the characteristics of a minimal approach. ‘Less is more’ has always had ‘more inspiration for him’ as Nebes states himself. After couple of years of a studio lock up, his hard work has been recognised and fully supported by a German minimal techno label Limikola and it’s boss Heron. Limikola has already enjoyed a full support by the likes of Richie Hawtin, Cari Lekebusch, Damon Wild, Troy Pierce, Paco Osuna.. January 2009 sees the release of Nebeses debut Fliction EP which immediately ended up in top 100 downloads on Beatport. His sound has now matured and has been described as a characteristic style of modulated bass lines combined with precise drum section, synthesized percussions and freaky high notes. His arrangements are rich in contrasts but also just as much in singularity and harmony of the flow. Above all, Nebes has a very good sense of humour – always a good sign in a talented producer. His latest Ensampled EP has been championed by the top DJ’s around the world for some time now. Nebes says – it’s a peak time vinyl with an old school vocals and a dark and emotive journey. True.
