“Today Necati Celik is an undisputed master of the classical Turkish ‘Ud. A virtuoso player unequalled in refined and complex playing, he demonstrates that his musical roots are deep within the Ottoman tradition and that he is the principal exponent of the Turkish Maqam on the ‘Ud. Choosing to hold himself apart from any eclecticism stemming from Western influences, he presents himself as a strict purist; this can be clearly heard on this recording, in which the listener can savour the authenticity and expressions of his Taksims.” Student of the great Cinucen Tanrikorur. Very beautiful recordings.
