Neil’s production career began in 1992 when his first alias NRG was born. A mix-tape DJ originally into hip-hop and breaks, was lured into the nocturnal world of the UK rave scene. As a pirate radio DJ Neil signed to the infamous Chill Records that eventually went bust. Through Chill Neil released the huge anthem ‘I Need Your Lovin’. This was licensed to more than 50 labels worldwide. Also followed ‘Never Lost His Hardcore’, a hard-house anthem to this day. After parting with Chill, Neil’s own label Ruff on Wax was born, with releases including Liquid Crystal. With Paul, Neil represented at the very start of the UK garage scene. Remixes offers flooded in and with a successful artist album, Roger Sanchez offered his services in mixing the Smokin Beats album CD. Summer Junkies enjoyed a remix from Jason Nevins, and DJ Flavours went a step further to enjoy a Number 19 hit in the UK top 40 charts with ‘Your Caress’ due a re-release on AATW/BMG in the UK. The Trotters’ sound was to influence many to produce similar styles, and help to fuel the Bassline scene. Neil’s alias Zoom & DBX – since shortened to just DBX, saw Neil write the classic, ‘Comin Again’ which was huge on the UK garage scene. It’s success saw remix offers flood in for Neil.
