Producer of Dance
A.k.a. João Nery
Nery Hypnotic. Futuristic. Geek. Relentless. Nery has always been many things. Producer, DJ, Programmer, Radio host and Scratch nerd: just a few of many elements that can define his 15 year old career. His DJ sets show a rare form of energy management, build together with his sensibility of merging electronic patterns with organic moments and a sharp technique. By challenging the audience to be embraced by a unique travel beyond their barriers, he overcomes expectation of the most certain person. Raised as DJ within Lisbon's music scene, he early joined forces with Breakfast and Supafly collectives. Both, Black Music, Drum n' Bass and Turntablism, collectives that gave him the right experience to become a linchpin in the Rockit constellation - responsible for one of the most fine and cutting edge venues in Lisbon until now, featuring artists like Dorian Concept, Lapalux, Shlohmo and many more. Over the last several years, Nery has been primarily known for his surrealistic live performances with Jazz musicians, such as the Berklee College awarded André Fernandes; his hypnotic DJ sets throughout some renowned clubs and venues - Café Leopold (AT), RBMA Boiler Room Lisboa (PT), Krzysztofory Klub (PL), Lux Frágil (PT), Rock in Rio Lisboa (PT), etc - but always evolved as a singular Auteur. RBMA showcase - Lx Taster - participation was the clear moment that made him step up his work as a music producer. Thus far, João Nery's releases as Nery have been just fragments, the result of this busy work schedule. Mainly working on remixes and some collaborations, he has been collecting seeds and maturing for the last years. And his debut album "33" is the outcome of it. Mastered by the distinguished Pete Norman, from Finyl Tweek, released by Madluv Rec. and distributed by Kudos Rec., "33" blends electronic and acoustic textures, in a collection of 12 spellbinding tracks; proving that different backgrounds can emerge in something truly exquisite. To fully dress his musical drawings, Nery summoned fourteen artists, including jazz musicians, percussionists, singers and producers: including for instance the Austrian-Taiwanese Soia (worked with Raashan Ahmad (Jakarta Records) and Jazzo & Melodiesinfonie (Soulection)) - the Belgian movie director Margo - remixed by LTGL (Tangram) - or the Portuguese Elisa Rodrigues - vocalist from These New Puritans - as singers, the wonderkid producer Holly and virtuoso guitar player André Fernandes, which make "33" even more balanced and brighter.
