Singer / Musician of Latin and World
The late Neville Fernando was a versatile singer and acoustic classical guitarist and singer in Sri Lanka. He burst into the music scene in Sri Lanka with his group “Los Caballeros” in the sixties and became of the most successful groups in the country. It is his artistry with the classical guitar he played, and singing, that was the hallmark of the music that the “Los Caballeros produced. Later, Neville went into composing music for films and vocals such as the famous "Bandun Piri" for Lester James Peries directed "Ransalu" in 1967. He died in the late seventies of leukaemia. The last song he sang was “Master Sir” for the late Manik Sandrasagra’s film “Kalu Diya Dhahara” ( A Column Of Black Water), a film that was a turning point in the history of cinema in Sri Lanka. When the song was played on Radio Ceylon (Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation) as a tribute to Neville Fernando there were over 500 requests the next day. The song went on to be a ‘hit’ in South Asia. It still is.
