Chilean "anti-poet", physicist and mathematician. He was born in San Fabián de Alico, Chile, on September 5, 1914 and he died in La Reina, Santiago Province, Santiago Metropolitan Region, Chile on January 23, 2018. He has been considered to be one of the most popular poets in Chile, with enormous influence and popularity in Latin America, and also considered one of the most important poets of the Spanish language literature. Parra has been nominated several times for the Nobel Prize in Literature. In 1969 he received Chile's National Prize for Literature. On December 1, 2011, Parra won the Cervantes Prize from Spain's Ministry of Culture, widely considered the most important literary prize in the Spanish-speaking world. He´s the brother of Violeta Parra, Hilda Parra, Roberto Parra, Lalo Parra, Lautaro Parra and as well the father of Colombina Parra and Barraco Parra.
